The Rationale Behind the Feature (Specific Design Principle):
The WISE module Space Colonies aims to connect students knowledge across different levels and contents in biology. Students receive scaffolding to support their building of connections between levels (DNA, cell, organism, population) and content (cell biology, genetics, evolution). Identifying the current level of presented evidence in a focus pyramid helps to build a meta-awareness of the different levels.
Context of Use:
Particularly in biology, students have to think on different levels, e.g. DNA, cell, organ, organism, population.
Visually identifying the current content-level helps students to understand the content of the presented information better and stresses the point that there are different but connected levels.
