Design Mode will assist you in designing your own computer-supported learning environment based on socio-constructivist pedagogical design principles. The design process will follow some scaffolding steps based on an instructional model (Kali & Ronen-Fuhrmann, 2007). In order to learn from experiences, successes and failures of others and to avoid reinventing the wheel in each design and development of a new learning environment, you will be invited to visit the design principles database in several stages of the design process. You will "collect" principles and features that will assist you in the design process. In the final stage you will have:
At this stage, you will also have attained pedagogical design knowledge. You will be able to develop your ideas with programmers and graphic designers. The design process will be recorded in your personal electronic notebook (e-notebook).
The instructional model used here is based on the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model. Here we will focus on the first two stages of the model, analysis and design. As you can see in the design model figure (at the left), the design stage has been expanded to three steps: Brainstorm, Flow, & Features. Development and Implementation have been combined to one step: Mock-Up (demo creation). At each step of the process, you will be required to give feedback to your peers. At the Evaluation stage, you will give and receive an overall evaluation. This will be followed by a second iteration of the whole design process.
